Can Gaia Natural Baby products be used on newborns?
YES! The entire range of products is suitable for all age groups and can most definitely be used on new born babies (including premature babies once they are old enough to have a bath).
Gaia Natural Baby products aren’t just limited to babies. Our customers love the range for its pure and gentle ingredients. Be it premmies, toddlers, kids, teens, adults or elderly who have sensitive skin, this collection can be used by all.
My baby has dry skin and I need a general moisturiser. What would you recommend?
You have two options.
The first is GAIA Natural Baby Moisturiser, a non-greasy, light cream that contains wheat germ oil and organic shea butter which are both great for dry, flaky skin.
If you're looking for a richer product or prefer an oil, try GAIA Natural Baby Massage Oil. It's made from cold-pressed sweet almond oil, a skin nutrient that provides deep moisturisation whilst softening and soothing dry and sensitive skin.
My baby has eczema and very sensitive skin — can we still use Gaia?
YES! Gaia Natural Baby is made with the finest natural extracts and is rich with certified organic ingredients to provide you with pure and gentle baby skin care for your little one.
This collection provides you with a product that is free from ingredients that are known to trigger dryness, itchiness and irritations. Instead, our products are enriched with moisturising, calming, softening and soothing plant extracts to keep your baby's skin soft, supple and free of irritation.
For ultra-sensitive skin, it’s always good to test patch new products on a small area of skin before daily usage.
Are pure essential oils ideal for baby’s skin?
YES! Gaia Natural Baby has a very subtle scent that has been created using Certified Organic Lavender, Chamomile and Sweet Orange pure essential oils. The concentration of our pure essential oils is half of what the recommended amount to ensure that your baby is not bombarded by smells.
Aromatherapy is the art and science of using oils extracted from aromatic plants to enhance health, beauty and wellbeing.
Many other products on the market utilise essential oils and fragrant oils that are not pure but instead synthetic – a big cause of skin irritation. Here at Gaia, we only use pure essential oils so you can keep your worries at bay.
I have heard that I shouldn't use products with essential oils during pregnancy — is this true?
Not entirely. There are a small number of pure essential oils that are considered toxic and should be avoided during pregnancy. These include clary sage, fennel, sweet marjoram, myrrh, pennyroyal, rosemary, sage and thyme.
The pure essential oils and concentrations used in GAIA Natural Baby and GAIA Skin Naturals do not use any of these oils and so are completely fine to use during pregnancy without any concern.
Do your products contain alcohol?
GAIA Skin Naturals do not use what you would commonly term "alcohol" (this generally refers to drying alcohols) in any of our formulations. Any reference to "alcohol" on our labels refers to the wax alcohols or Cetearyl alcohol which are classified as moiturising alcohols. Cetearyl alcohol is made from various vegetable oils such as sustainable palm and coconut. These bear little relation to common alcohol, which is a volatile liquid and quite drying.
I am allergic to nuts, do any of your products contain nut oils?
That depends on your allergy — do you have a peanut, tree nut allergy or both? Only one of our products contain nuts or nut derivatives and that's our GAIA Natural Baby Massage Oil which is made from cold-pressed sweet almond oil. Almonds are actually classified as a fruit and are low allergenic. However, our products are manufactured with other products containing nuts so it's best if you do a patch test first.
Do you have a product that will help with my baby's cradle cap?
Exactly what causes cradle cap remains a bit of a mystery. What is known is that it is better to use a product that is pH balances, free from drying agents and is moisturising so as not to upset the natural oils of your baby's scalp, which can lead to dryness and cradle cap.
We get a lot of feedback from mums who have babies with cradle cap that have used GAIA Natural Baby Massage Oil and Baby Shampoo with great success.
Check out our cradle cap handy hint on the GAIA Natural Baby Shampoo product page for more details.
Can Coeliacs use your products?
YES! Coeliacs Disease is a permanent intolerance to dietary gluten and, for this to be of concern, gluten must be ingested. In other words, you need to eat it for it to cause a problem. Wheat products, such as wheat germ oil, can be used on the skin without concern by people diagnosed with coeliac disease.
What does GAIA mean?
"GAIA" (pronounced guy-ya) is the Greek Goddess of the Earth. Mother Earth is believed to have a living energy spirit called "GAIA" that is the creator of all life and all the things that come together to form the earth.
What does Certified Organic ingredients mean?
Organic farming uses techniques that preserve our environment and keep the soil as healthy as it can be. They do not use synthetic fertilisers, herbicides, pesticides and chemicals or any other substances that are harmful to soil, water, wildlife, human life or the environment.
Gaia lists every single ingredient used and label the certified organic ingredients specifically so you know exactly what goes in. This ensures that the organic ingredients are following stringent guidelines for their certification. All certified organic ingredients that we use are sourced from reputable certified farms and carry the appropriate certifications - Australian Certified Organic (ACO) by the BFA of Australia.
Why do we do this? We live on a certified organic farm and understand the hard work that goes into ensuring we comply and can prove we have met with the stringent guidelines associated with the certification process.
We don't want to give you any false information about our organic content. Many companies market their products as being organic when in fact they only have a very small percentage of organic ingredients in their formulations. We pride ourselves on not using misleading information in our marketing.
Why does Gaia Natural Baby ensure that all ingredients are stated?
By law, you do not have to disclose any ingredient that is used under 1% in your concentration. This can make choosing products stressful for parents trying to avoid certain ingredients that irritate or dry their little one's skin.
ALL ingredients used in all Gaia products are listed on our labels assuring you of our purity and commitment to providing you with pure and gentle products.
Aren’t organic products common nowadays?
As the organic movement grows in momentum, some companies tend to exaggerate their use of organic ingredients for the purpose of marketing their products.
Often, companies claim that their products are 99% certified organic ingredients or have fully certified organic skincare.
In reality, these companies may be referring to one or two of their products containing those levels and not their entire product range.
At Gaia, we take care NOT to deceive you by providing factual information and marketing strategies for all of our products.
If you have any other questions regarding our products, feel free to contact us and we will be happy to help you!
